BuilderHelper.com Overview:
During the next few editions of our HBA newsletter we will highlight a new software program called Builder Helper designed for home builders and trade contractors. Builder Helper facilitates General Contractors to create electronic bids, upload plans, and instantly notify hundreds of trades in the local area. Through the program, subcontractors will receive notifications through email and text messages to perform online estimating takeoffs.

Builder Helper is "web-based" software that runs through the internet like many popular email services, meaning you can access it from any computer with the Internet. You could be at home, at the office, on the job-site with a PDA, or even in a hotel on vacation, and open up all the information needed to manage your business. The benefits are limitless to using web-based software. For example, if your office or home computers crash, no information will be lost because it is safely stored in the Builder Helper system.

Builder Helper addresses 4 main areas with its software, each of which will be highlighted and detailed in future newsletters.

The first module is "Bidding and Estimating." Builder Helper allows you to send electronic plans to all of your trade contractors for bidding. They can then open the plans on their computers to perform accurate on-screen take-offs. When the trades have compiled an estimate in the system, they can submit a bid to be reviewed.

The second module is "Scheduling" which facilitates the process to schedule unlimited projects providing up-to-date information to your trade contractors on where and when they're scheduled by sending out automatic emails and cell phone text messages.

The third module is "Customer Management" that creates an online website for your customers to stay informed on project information, make option selections, and submit change orders.

The last module is "Punch List Management" that allows you to assign punch list items to your trade contractors and easily keep track of outstanding or completed items. The program also uses the Internet to send instantaneous emails and cell phone text messages to you and your trade contractors whenever changes occur.

Builder Helper has taken a very comprehensive approach to the Home Building process to help you avoid the pains of double and triple data-entry between sets of different software because everything is compiled in the Builder Helper system.

Real-time Scheduling:
In our efforts to highlight useful technology for the builders in our association, we are featuring a product for your consideration: BuilderHelper.com.

In this edition of our newsletter we are taking a look at Builder Helper's "Scheduling" module. Builder Helper is "web-based" meaning that all functions can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Instantly, you can just sit down, login your password and manage everything regarding your projects.

Builder Helper allows you to schedule every task in your job schedules and assign the associated trade contractor. The program sends automatic emails and cell phone text messages out to your trade contractors when they're assigned to a job, as well as when their assignment changes, and even sends them a message to remind them when their tasks are getting close.

If there's one complaint we hear over and over here in the HBA office, it's general contractors have to spend an inordinate amount of time on their phones to schedule their trade contractors. Builder Helper has created a simple and easy-to-use method to significantly reduce the amount of time you would spend on the phone scheduling.

Electronic Plans and Bidding:
In our efforts to highlight useful technology for the builders in our association, we are featuring a product for your consideration: BuilderHelper.com.

Plan copies are incurred costs many builders spend money every month without considering new and improved methods to forward project information and plans to their trade contractors. Through the Internet, Builder Helper has developed a simple way to share plans with trade contractors.

To easily get started, obtain the computer file plan from your architect, convert the PDF document to a JPG, and upload the file to your account on Builder Helper. Then check-off a list of the trade contractors you want to notify. Builder Helper automatically sends an email and a cell phone text message to all the tradesmen you selected and invites them to bid on the plan.

You may be saying "Yeah, I can already do that through my email." However, Builder Helper takes things to the next level; their system actually allows you and your trades to make accurate measurements on the plan right from the computer screen. There is no need to print the plan, just click, click, click, and you know the square-footage of the main floor. The feature is so slick, you really have to see it to believe it.

Builder Helper then finishes the process by allowing your tradesmen to compile and submit estimates for your review. It's difficult to estimate exactly how much time will be saved by not having to coordinate the distribution of plans and collection of bids. However, one thing is certain, you'll save a ton on the cost of plan copies alone.

Customer Management:
In our efforts to highlight useful technology for the builders in our association, we are featuring a product for your consideration: BuilderHelper.com.

As most of you know, customer management can be a nightmare, and how you manage your customers can be the difference between a profitable project with future referrals and an un-profitable project with bitterness and possible lawsuits. Builder Helper's "Customer Management Module" is designed to streamline many of the management hassles accustomed to dealing with customers, and retain an electronic "paper-trail" of all forms of communication with your customers for record-keeping and liability purposes.

Simply login to your Builder Helper account and create a password for your project's customer. From their account, a customer can log online and share project information. You have the ability to select and limit the project information you want to disclose, whether it's a week's view of the project schedule, a contract using the "documents" section, or an electronic copy of the project plan. More importantly, you can choose exactly how much information you want to share to not shoot yourself in the foot by revealing too much to the customer.

Builder Helper also provides a format that allows your customers to make option selections. Simply create a list of their available options, set a deadline for their decision, and the customer can log in and choose from the provided choices. In essence, you can provide your customers with a "Virtual Design Center" where they can see colors of paint, tile variations, plumbing and lighting fixtures, etc. to make decisions easier by logging in from their home computer.

Overall, Builder Helper's customer management module is an easy way to cater to the increasing number of "tech-savvy" customers building homes in today's market that demand more involvement in the building process, while still providing you the control necessary to run the project exactly how you see fit. It also provides customers an outlet for communication that is not your cell phone or office number, which allows you to address their issues and concerns at your convenience. Finally, the record-keeping will be a life saver (and money saver) if disputes should arise.
